Unlike our fathers and mothers, teenagers of this generation have many problems in their relationships (or situationships). And instead of trying to solve them, the romance they made tends to end tragically and it causes them to go through a phase called “heartbreak”. And also as we know, teenagers nowadays tend to keep their feelings to themselves and listen to songs that match their feelings. And i’m here to give them more songs to express their emotions! Please note that these are songs and you can interpret it according to your own opinion. The interpretation of these songs in this blog are according to my opinion.
Please also note that i’m not supporting any of these doings (keeping feelings to yourself) and also note, that if you feel mentally unwell due to that certain heartbreak, please seek professional help or at least try asking advice from someone else.
The One That Got Away
Ever felt like you’ve made the wrong decision? Or did the wrong thing? This song matches up perfectly. Even with its upbeat instruments, this song portrays a beautiful story about a love that ended due to a mistake made. As the person reflects on memories, they realized it was the wrong choice. But they don’t beg for their ex to come back. They just let them be and wish that in another life, they’re still together.
In another lifeI would make you staySo I don't have to sayYou were the one that got awayThe one that got away
— You can’t make everyone stay. People come and go, everyone will leave us some day. And when they do leave us, we will still be the same. Without them you are you and without you they are themselves. Letting go is always the best option. Even if it’s the hardest one.
Oceans & Engines - NIKI
This song released by NIKI is the definition of a MATERPIECE. The poetic lyrics match up well with the sorrowful instruments. Making it the perfect song for expressing your heartbreak. This song (in my interpretation) is basically forcing to let go and move on from someone, knowing you can’t. It’s like breaking up and then remembering the extravagant memories you had together. The lyrics themselves match up so well with this situation, here are a few bars of the song :How is it now that somehow you're a strangеr?
You were mine just yеsterdayI pray the block in my airway dissipatesAnd instead deters your airplane's way
— Very Heartbreaking indeed. The feeling of being strangers again with someone you built a relationship with is such a pain. But have you ever felt it as a strange feeling instead? Like, it’s weird that when you walk past a stranger you know everything about them. Their favorite foods, movies, and even songs. It sure gives a little sense of heartbreak, right?
Strange - Celeste
I call this certain heartbreak phase “strange”. This song captures that strange feeling PERFECTLY. With the lyrics and the instruments it expresses a very strange feeling. It feels like realizing that your ex is still the person he is and you are still you. But this time without each other. It’s crazy how we can have memories with a stranger of your life.
Isn't it strangeHow people can changeFrom strangers to friendsFriends into loversAnd strangers again?
— Very strange feeling of heartbreak indeed. It makes you feel trapped in a certain thought that what would happen if it didn’t end? What if i did better? I know this is my fault. Let’s do better please? Because you know, you were the one who messed things up.
Mess It Up - Gracie Abrams
This song feels like the bargaining phase of the 5 phases of grief. Knowing every relationship ends because of your actions and doings. Knowing that everything you give will never be enough. Cause every time you get too close, you just go mess it up. And it pains that you have to suffer the feelings of bargaining people to stay with you and give you another chance. But the cycle will always repeat itself.I keep thinking maybe if you let me back inWe can make it better, breaking every habitPull myself together, you could watch it happenLet it happen, let it happen
— When i went through my first heartbreak, i tried to beg them to stay. But begging someone to stay won’t do anything. People disappear out of your life for the better. It may sometimes hurt but that’s just the way things go. Like i said, without you they are still them, and without them you are still you. Life goes on. It continues.
Conclusions
Remember that whatever you’re feeling right now, it’s part of being human. Not everyone can handle heartbreak and it’s fine to grief a tad bit from time to time. Not everyone is as vigorous and staggering as people ask them to be. No one is. And that’s why expressing what you’re feeling is normal!!
I’ll release the 2nd part of this blog some time in the future. But till then, catch you later.
xoxo, falisha
